Considering Barbara Hepworth’s Polagos, it is a wooden sculpture, shaped and carved into this dynamic form that creates a sense of strong tension as the white interior contrasts with the natural materials present outside of the sculpture.

Note that this work is installed on a wooden plinth, which creates a sense of connection between the world of the work and the environment in which it might be placed.

The form consists of soft, rounded, flowing form with the stark contrast of sharp lines (Lewison, 2015) as seen in the strings that 'connect' the two sides of the object coming together. This work relates to the body/object, as Barbara often utilized ideas of abstracted female figures in her structures (Lewison, 2015). Likewise, we are considering wood and figure in week 2.
