the aim was to create a strong sense of field with the two protruding shapes extending outward, imagine a big square form in space with the corner resting this sculpture.
Lecture notes:
Enclosures: Physical or metaphorical boundaries, such as walls, fences or divisions that may speak to restriction, containment or privatization of shared space.
Fields:
Physical or metaphoric open spaces that may speak to freedom, interconnectedness, shared resources, community, collaboration or the blending of boundaries.
Reading notes:
The question: there is paradox in my beliefs. If someone tells me that a trady working as a plumber is more important, more vital to society than say the artist, I will kick back.
But when an artist works on this scale, I’m not happy with him destroying the landscape (for what I consider not to be a proper reason to do so) while I would be fine if someone built say I dam out there that would supply water - even though it would also destroy a large piece of landscape.
Basically, land is the canvas, and the resources of the land is like the paints to create a form that is cite specific and cannot be moved to the gallery context in any way because of the size and scale of the Endeavor.
